Describing a semifreddo simply as "a dessert that should be eaten frozen" would be unfair. Developed at a time when ice cream makers didn't even exist, semifreddo was born over 500 years ago. It was the pastry chefs who experimented relentlessly until they found a deliciously soft and velvety blend, totally free of ice grains. Using only 3 basic ingredients —semi whipped heavy cream, egg yolk and different flavourings — semifreddo became popular as one of the stars of Italian gastronomy. With infinite variations and possibilities, you can add many flavours to make it unique.
Join us to learn how to prepare the perfect Italian semifreddo using some of the most traditional Italian products like coffee, hazelnuts IGP, chocolate from Modica IGP, and mascarpone, just to name a few.
Produced mainly in the areas of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato hills, the Piedmont Hazelnuts IGP are recognized as one of the best in the world. The Piemonte Nocciolla is produced by its centenary trees and presents a pleasant intense aroma and wonderful taste after roasted.
The Sicilian town of Modica produces a unique traditional chocolate, made from manually grinded cocoa, which gives it a peculiar texture and flavor. The process dates to the ancient Aztec people from Central America, who taught the Hispanic settlers the techniques of cocoa processing. Modica Chocolate IGP will give our Semifreddo a unique sweet flavour with a hint of bitterness.
Our chef will also show you how to prepare the perfect espresso with a traditional Moka. After all, Italy can be considered the beverage's spiritual home. This class will take you on a delicious adventure that mixes history, fun and one of the greatest pleasures in the world: dessert.
The True Italian Taste project is promoted and financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, carried out by Assocamerestero in collaboration with the Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad to strengthen and to protect the authentic Italian products.
