Description

The name of Italy’s second largest region – Piemonte – derives from medieval Latin Pedemontium or Pedemontis, meaning “at the foot of the mountains”. Against the backdrop of the north-western Alps, Piemonte is a territory of unique landscapes, ranging from the banks of the river Po to Monte Rosa, from the largest rice paddies in Europe to the cities of art, castles and towns with centuries-old history and tradition scattered among plains and hills.

Piemonte is also home of magnificent vineyards and some of the world's most famous red wines. In fact, this region introduces us to a completely new set of wine grapes to taste and understand – from Nebbiolo to Cortese. Piedmontese cheeses are a revelation as well; like wine, cheese has deep roots to its town and territory. The aromas and flavours of the cheeses pick up nuances from distinct terroirs, and it can vary year by year, depending on what the animals foraged, if made artisanally. Mountain cheeses are some of the bests, coming from local breeds of sheep, goats, and cattle that forage all summer long in the pristine meadows or alpeggio.

In this in-person experience, our wine expert and head cheesemonger will guide you through a tasting journey of a diverse selection of vini and formaggi from Piemonte as you discover their history and flavour profiles. Not only will you learn how to perfectly pair these wines and cheeses, but you’ll also learn about the stories behind the products and the local production methods. As the old adage goes, “What grows together goes together.” The local products naturally connect, creating simple and elegant pairings. A great occasion to further validate the claim that Piemonte is indeed the Italian mecca for food and wine!
